Enhance Voter Engagement with Reliable Ballot Information

Every election gives voters an opportunity to shape their future. That’s why Democracy Works has teamed up with Ballotpedia, the leading source for reliable nonpartisan ballot information, to include comprehensive data about statewide ballot measures in our Elections API, as well as TurboVote.

Why This Matters

Show voters what’s at stake by providing details about the contests, candidates, and measures on their ballot.

While most voters know of the candidates who are running for president, they may not be as aware of important ballot measures or down-ballot races. Voters can examine the lesser-known – but equally important – issues that directly affect their local communities.

Integrate ballot information directly into your offering with Democracy Works’ Elections API.

In the Elections API, ballot data is easily accessible from the Elections endpoint, using the includeBallotData parameter. Ballot data is included with the corresponding election’s data, matched by OCD-ID but given the effort involved in most implementation and the short amount of time remaining to get out the vote for the 2024 general elections, we’re only supporting applications requesting election guidance and ballot info for specific OCD-IDs.

Our Commitment to Quality

Ballotpedia provides us with daily updates, which undergo our team’s rigorous quality assurance process. We integrate Ballotpedia’s data with existing elections in Democracy Works’ system to ensure accuracy and relevance. Our process includes:

  • Data verification - We remove incomplete or outdated information to maintain the integrity of our data.

  • Organization - Ballot measures are organized by topic to facilitate easier navigation and understanding.

  • Standardization - We update data formats to ensure consistency and compatibility with our tools.

These steps ensure that the data displayed in our API is not only informative and reliable but also contextually relevant, providing users with accurate and actionable election information.
